At NAB 2016 the first step towards the future will be available already.

After 55 years Itelco know-how always moves forward growing. R&D department, always followed by “iron-man” Prof. Eugenio Fumi (the water cooling pioneer), is still focused in broadcasting pioneering innovations. The latest challenge is the William H. Doherty amplification technology.

Despite many recent broadcasting technology development, Doherty was approached only since a couple of years.

This primarily because of the difficulty in achieving >36 db MER without using excellence levels in terms of pre-correction, and secondly because  the Doherty is a narrow band system and, with a market demanding frequency-agile amplifiers, this has been a very limiting growth factor.

Recently some progress were achieved, by limiting the design to UHF pallet with Doherty technology and dividing it into three sub-bands of the UHF range used for TV-OFDM digital transmission: so designing, as a matter of fact, three separate amplifier boards (only generically described as “broadband”).

Maybe for achieving true full-Doherty technology broadband pallets it would take a miracle … or maybe not!!
